It’s no secret that dressing yourself can be tough at times. On one hand, you have to figure out which pieces pair well with others. And more than that, you have to then make those pieces work for you – your body type, height, complexion, among countless other details. Dressing is no task for the weak! ;)
Even as a “blogger,” I find it difficult to make a garment or piece of clothing that I saw on a model or style icon work well for me. And sometimes, the piece ends up not working at all! That’s where the fun part comes in: improvising.
Dressing yourself every day should be fun. It’s an expressive, creative, and liberating outlet that allows you to be who you are and feel good when you step out into the world. If something doesn’t look exactly like it did on the mannequin or in that photo you pinned, it’s okay! Rework it until it’s something that not only makes you feel comfortable, but makes you feel damn good.
Take this outfit for example: what was supposed to be a dress turned into a flowy tunic with the simple addition of some pants (and let’s be honest, was it really going to work as a dress anyway?) I understand that this is not some genius discovery and that it may have been done before, but it’s my way of problem-solving. It’s my way of dressing. And that’s what makes it so incredibly beautiful and carefree. You don’t have to be afraid to take risks. You don’t have to be nervous about being a little spontaneous. For it’s in these moments of quick thought and serendipity that magic happens. Happy dressing!
